Goan Vatana Ros( Dried white peas)


 

Ingredients:

250gm vatana(dried white peas)

6 Medium size Onions

2 Medium size Tomatoes

2 Cup Grated Coconut

2 Green Chillies

2 Red Chillies

Curry Leaves

1/2 tsp turmeric powder

4 tbsp coriander seeds

1/2 " Ginger

6 garlic cloves

Tamarind ( Soaked in water)

corriander seeds 4tbsp.

cumin seeds 1tbps


Soak the vatana (dried white peas) overnight in water to soften the peas, keeps aside . In a cooker add water and remove 3 whistles in a cooker.  now start preparing the masala


Procedure to Prepare the Masala

2.         In a pan add oil and roast 3 onions. fry till the onions start to turn light brown. remove and keep aside.

3.       Next oil to pan and add coriander seeds , cumin seeds, ginger and garlic, red chilly,  and roast for 3 minutes, add grated coconut to it and roast till the grated coconut turns golden brown.

4.       Add all the ingredients mentioned above in Serial No. 2 & 3 in a mixer , add turmeric powder &  soaked tamarind and grind till  fine paste. Add water as required.


Cooking the Ros

.      In a container, add 2 tbps oil, add onion( 3nos), and fry till golden brown. Add curry leaves, next add the ground masala and saute for 2 minutes. Next, add the cooked white peas ( vatana) and add the leftover water from boiling the white peas( vatana). Add salt for taste. Let the mix boil for 5 minutes.
